Disney Genie & Genie+ Overview for DVC Members

Disney Vacation Club members enjoying attractions with Disney Genie and Genie+ services at a DVC resort.

Disney launched Genie, Genie+, and Lightning Lane back in October 2019, replacing the old FastPass system. Look, I'll be honest with you - it's more complicated than FastPass ever was, and it costs money. But if you're a DVC member who's already invested thousands in your membership, understanding how this works can save you hours in lines during your stays.

We've had members call us asking if their resale contracts affect Genie access. They don't. Whether you bought direct from Disney or through us at a 30% discount, you get the same Genie benefits.

Understanding Disney Genie and Genie+

Disney split this into two services, and they love making it confusing:

  • Disney Genie: Free trip planning tool in the My Disney Experience app. Everyone gets this.
  • Genie+: Paid service that lets you skip regular lines. Costs extra every single day you want it.

The free version is actually pretty useful. The paid version? That depends on when you're visiting and how much you hate waiting in lines.

Disney Genie

The free Genie creates daily itineraries based on what you tell it. You punch in your park preferences, must-do attractions, dining reservations, and it spits out a schedule from rope drop to fireworks.

Here's what it does throughout your day:

  • Sends alerts when your favorite attractions have short waits
  • Suggests nearby restaurants when you're hungry
  • Adjusts your plan based on real-time crowd levels

There's also a chat feature for questions. Though honestly, calling the resort directly often gets you better answers than the automated responses.

For DVC members, this is actually valuable. Since you're probably doing longer stays than typical tourists, the free planning tool helps you pace yourself instead of cramming everything into three days.

Disney Genie+

This is where Disney gets your wallet. Genie+ costs $15-30 per person per day at Walt Disney World, depending on crowd levels. At Disneyland it's $20-30. Peak times like Christmas week? You're looking at the higher end.

With Genie+, you can book Lightning Lane access starting at 7:00 AM on your park day. Once you use one reservation or two hours pass, you can book another. It covers about 40 attractions across all four parks.

But here's the catch - the most popular rides aren't included. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Rise of the Resistance, Avatar Flight of Passage, Guardians of the Galaxy. Those require separate Individual Lightning Lane purchases at $10-25 each.

As a DVC member staying longer, you might skip Genie+ on slower days and only buy it when crowds are heavy. We tell our members to check crowd calendars before deciding.

What is Lightning Lane?

Lightning Lane is just Disney's new name for the old FastPass entrance. Same physical queues, different branding.

You've got two types:

Genie+ Lightning Lanes: Included with your $15-30 daily fee. Book one at a time throughout the day.

Individual Lightning Lanes: Separate purchase for the biggest attractions. You can buy up to two per day, and they range from $10-25 depending on the ride and date.

So yeah, if you want to skip lines for Rise of the Resistance AND buy Genie+ for everything else, you're looking at $40-55 per person that day. For a family of four? That's $200+ just for line-skipping privileges.

Using Disney Genie and Genie+ as a DVC Member

Every DVC member gets access to all Genie features. Doesn't matter if you bought your Bay Lake Tower contract direct for $165 per point or got it resale through us for $110 per point. Same access.

The big advantage for DVC members is trip flexibility. Since you're not tied to a package vacation, you can:

  • Skip Genie+ entirely on low-crowd days
  • Only buy it for Magic Kingdom visits (where it's most valuable)
  • Use longer stays to hit attractions during naturally low-wait times

I've seen DVC members save hundreds by being strategic. Instead of buying Genie+ every day of a week-long stay, they'll purchase it for 2-3 peak days and use early park hours the rest of the time.

Planning your point usage efficiently helps too. Use our Disney Vacation Club Point Calculator to see how different room categories and seasons affect your stays. More points saved means more trips, which means more opportunities to visit during slower periods.

Make Disney Your Home

Look, if you're spending $200+ per day on Genie services for your family, you're already thinking like a DVC member. Why not make it official?

purchasing DVC resale through our brokerage saves you 20-50% compared to Disney's direct prices. We've closed over 5,000 DVC contracts, and our commission is 6.9% versus the industry standard of 9.5%. That's more money in your pocket.

A 150-point contract at Saratoga Springs goes for around $120 per point resale versus $165 direct. That's $6,750 in savings right there. Enough to cover years of Genie+ purchases.

Browse our current DVC listings and make an offer today. Our buyer's agent fee is just $500, and sellers pay the $150 estoppel fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Disney Genie, and how does it help DVC members plan their park days?

Answer: Disney Genie is a free digital planner in the My Disney Experience app. It creates daily schedules based on your preferences and sends real-time updates about wait times and dining options. For DVC members, it's particularly useful because you can plan around longer stays and take advantage of resort proximity for mid-day breaks.

Q2: Does purchasing DVC resale affect my access to Genie+ services?

Answer: Not at all. Whether you bought direct from Disney or resale through a broker like us, you get identical access to Genie, Genie+, and Lightning Lanes. The only DVC benefits affected by resale purchases are Disney Perks like merchandise discounts, not park services.

Q3: Is Genie+ worth it for longer DVC stays?

Answer: It depends on your dates and strategy. For week-long stays, buying Genie+ every day gets expensive fast. We recommend checking crowd calendars and only purchasing it for your busiest park days, typically weekends and Magic Kingdom visits. Use Early Theme Park Entry on slower days instead.

I’ve dealt with Mark for over 20 years, he’s always available to answer my silly questions, and give honest advice, even if it’s to his detriment. When the time comes to sell, Mark will be my first call.

Mitzi and I couldn't have had a more positive experience as the one which we had, in selling some of our DVC points through DVC Sales with Mark and Lori Webb. and their staff. The whole process was transparent, seamless and we were being fully briefed as to the. progress. Thanks to Mark we were kept aware as to what was happening with the listing, with the ROFR bu Disney, and with the closing process completed, all in a short months' time. We couldn't have asked for a better group than DVC Sales for the sale. they were honest . amd truly caring on our behalf. Mitzi and Lee Tucholski

Just sold some of my points and Mark and Lori were wonderful. I’m very, very happy with the experience. I got an excellent price and now someone else gets to enjoy just a bit more of DVC. The website is great to work with too. I will always use DVC Sales and encourage you to do the same.

Foreign sellers, beware; they will not provide correct information to you about what you can expect when selling. They also, at the end of the process, hit you with fees you did not expect, and you are too late to do anything about it.

I could not imagine being happier with my experience using DVC Sales to sell our Old Key West membership. We enjoyed so many years of Disney vacations. While on your website I started a chat that turned into a call with Lori. She took the time to explain how the website works. Within a few minutes I had created my account and listed my membership for sale. Within 3-4 weeks we received an offer and sold our membership. Thankyou Lori and DVC Sales!

Mark, today we have just received the last check for our 4th contract you sold for us. Our experience was outstanding you deserve the acknowledgement for your service. You remind me of the way customers were treated years ago. Everybody we spoke with or chatted online was friendly and helpful. Although the process took a few months, it was worth the wait. We hope the families who purchased on contracts have as much enjoyment as we have had. If anyone is looking to buy or sell a DVC membership you can use our name. Thank you again!
