5 Reasons to Love Disney Riviera Resort (And One Thing You Must Know Before You Buy)
Before we get into what makes Riviera genuinely great, there is something you need to know upfront. Disney Riviera Resort carries a resale restriction that no other DVC resort has: if you purchase Riviera DVC points on the resale market, those points can only be used at Riviera Resort. You cannot use them at other DVC resorts. Not at Saratoga Springs, not at the Polynesian, not at Aulani. Riviera only.
This is not buried in the fine print. It is the most important fact about a Riviera resale purchase, and you need to understand it clearly before you spend a dollar. Disney implemented this restriction in 2019 when Riviera opened, and it applies to all resale contracts going forward.
Now, here is the thing: plenty of buyers know this and still choose Riviera resale. They love the resort. They plan to stay there every trip. The restriction does not affect their plans, and the price discount makes the contract genuinely attractive. If that describes you, read on. Riviera has a lot going for it.
Reason 1: The European Theming Is Different From Anything Else at Disney
Every DVC resort has a theme. Polynesian leans tropical. Wilderness Lodge leans Pacific Northwest. Grand Californian goes Arts and Crafts. Riviera leans into French and Italian Riviera influence in a way that feels genuinely different from anything else on Disney property.
The inspiration comes from Walt Disney own travels through Europe in the 1930s, particularly along the coast of France and Italy. The architecture uses warm stone tones, red-tile roofing, and Mediterranean landscaping. It does not feel like a theme park hotel. It feels like a European resort that happens to have Mickey Mouse somewhere in the art.
The original artwork throughout the resort is worth paying attention to. You will find pieces that reference classic Disney films through an impressionist and modernist lens, a subtle nod to the European art movements that influenced Disney own storytelling. It is the kind of detail that rewards guests who slow down and look around.
The outdoor spaces reinforce the atmosphere. Palm-lined walkways, intimate garden areas, and shaded terraces give the resort a scale that feels manageable even though it is a large property. It does not feel like a convention hotel. It feels like a place where you are meant to linger.
Reason 2: Skyliner Access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios
Riviera has its own dedicated Disney Skyliner station. Step out the door, walk two minutes, and you are airborne. EPCOT International Gateway is a short gondola ride away. Hollywood Studios is a slightly longer ride in the other direction. No bus. No car. No waiting in a parking lot line.
For DVC members who visit EPCOT and Hollywood Studios regularly, this is a genuine lifestyle benefit. EPCOT in particular is a park that rewards multiple shorter visits. When you can pop over for a couple of hours in the evening, try a new restaurant in World Showcase, and be back in your villa before 10pm without any logistics involved, it changes how you use your membership.
The gondolas themselves are air-conditioned and roomy enough for strollers. The aerial view of the property is one of the better angles you will get on Walt Disney World, and kids treat every ride like its own attraction. The system does occasionally slow down during weather events or peak hours, but for everyday use it is reliable.
The Skyliner also connects Riviera to Caribbean Beach Resort, which opens up additional dining options including Sebastian Bistro and the marketplace at Old Port Royale. It is a small thing, but having easy access to a neighbor resort food scene matters when you are staying for a week.
Reason 3: Topolino Terrace Is One of the Best DVC Dining Experiences on Property
Topolino Terrace sits on the rooftop of Riviera and serves two very different meals. The character breakfast, called Breakfast a la Art with Mickey and Friends, is one of the strongest character dining experiences at Walt Disney World right now. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy all appear in artist-themed outfits inspired by French and Italian painters, and the food is genuinely good: French-inspired dishes, well-executed pastries, savory options that hold up alongside the sweets.
If you have done character dining at other resorts and found the food forgettable, Topolino breakfast is different. It is worth booking at the 60-day window for DVC members. Tables go fast.
Dinner at Topolino Terrace is a separate experience entirely. The menu runs French and Italian influences with seasonal changes, and the kitchen takes it seriously. On clear nights, you get fireworks views from both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios from the rooftop terrace. For a special occasion dinner on a DVC stay, this is one of the best options on property without leaving the resort.
Le Petit Cafe on the lobby level handles breakfast pastries, coffee, wine, and small plates throughout the day. The croissants are legitimately good. The wine list is short but thoughtful. It fills the gap between a full restaurant meal and a snack run without feeling like an afterthought.
Reason 4: The Room Layouts Work Well for DVC Members
Riviera offers a range of accommodations from Deluxe Studios up through three-bedroom Grand Villas, with Tower Studios as a unique option. Here is a quick breakdown of what actually works:
Tower Studios are small. Very small. Think 200 square feet with a small kitchen setup and a clever Murphy bed. The views from the tower are the selling point: sweeping sightlines over the resort and surrounding property. Tower Studios run roughly 30 to 40 points per night depending on season, which makes them one of the more efficient ways to use DVC points if you are traveling as a couple and do not need much space.
Deluxe Studios give you more room, a proper kitchenette, and the standard DVC studio setup. For couples or families with a small child, they work well for a week-long stay if you keep the dining simple.
One-Bedroom and Two-Bedroom Villas have full kitchens, separate living areas, and in-unit laundry. The layouts are well thought out. The one-bedrooms fit a couple or small family comfortably. The two-bedrooms handle larger families without the cramped feeling you sometimes get at other resorts. These are where Riviera Mediterranean design sensibility really shows up in the finishes and color palette.
The balconies in many units are genuinely usable space, not just a ledge with a chair. That matters for members who like to spend time in the room.
Reason 5: The Resale Price Reflects the Restriction, and That Is a Real Discount
Because of the resale restriction, Riviera resale contracts price significantly below what Disney charges direct. Direct pricing for Riviera currently runs around $207 to $220 per point. Resale pricing on Riviera typically falls in the $110 to $135 per point range.
That is a $75 to $90 per point discount. On a 150-point contract, that is $11,000 to $13,500 in savings compared to purchasing direct. That is real money.
For a buyer who genuinely loves Riviera and plans to stay there for most or all of their DVC trips, that price advantage is substantial. The restriction only matters if you want flexibility to use points at other resorts. If you do not need that flexibility, you are essentially getting a premium DVC resort at a steep discount.

Who Should Buy Riviera Resale (And Who Should Not)
Riviera resale is a good fit if:
- You love the resort specifically and plan to stay there on most or all of your DVC trips
- You visit EPCOT and Hollywood Studios regularly and want the Skyliner advantage
- You want a premium DVC resort at a resale price point and are willing to accept the trade-off
- You are a couple or small family who can maximize Tower Studio or one-bedroom stays
Riviera resale is not a good fit if:
- You want to explore different DVC resorts each year
- You have plans to stay at Beach Club, Boardwalk, Polynesian, or any other DVC property
- You want the flexibility to use points at Aulani in Hawaii or Disneyland Grand Californian
- You are looking for a contract you might sell later and want broad resale appeal
We will always tell you the honest version of this, not the version that closes a sale. Riviera resale is a terrific deal for the right buyer. It is the wrong contract for someone who wants flexibility. Our team has 25 years of experience helping buyers figure out which side of that line they are on. If you are not sure, tell us what you are looking for and we will point you toward the contract that actually fits your vacation plans.
